The District Attorney is the chief law enforcement officer for the county in which he is elected.

He prosecutes all criminal cases as representative of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

The District Attorney or his designee may appear and assume the prosecution of any summary case or preliminary hearing at the magistrate level.

Once charges are bound over to the Court of Common Pleas, the District Attorney assumes the prosecution of the case until the case is resolved through a plea, acceptance into the ARD Program, bench or jury trial or dismissal of charges.

No case can be withdrawn from prosecution without the approval of the District Attorney.
